Handmade Scarf and Hat Collection: Operation Gratitude

GTPL and Operation Gratitude are collecting hand crocheted and knit scarves and hats for overseas military members. Donations are due at the library by Nov 20 so they can be mailed. Guidelines Use size 4 worsted weight yarn for hats and scarves Each scarf must measure between 4"-5" wide and 48"- 50" long. No pom-poms on hats You may include a note on regular paper rolled into your item

Adult Book Group: "The Rent Collector"

Please join our book group! This month we will be discussing "The Rent Collector" by Camron Wright. Copies of the book will be available at the circulation desk while supplies last. Survival for Ki Lim and Sang Ly is a daily battle at Stung Meanchey, the largest municipal waste dump in all of Cambodia. They make their living scavenging recyclables from the trash. Life would be hard enough without the worry for their chronically ill child, Nisay, and the added expense of medicines that are not working. Just when things seem worst, Sang Ly learns a secret about the ill-tempered rent collector who comes demanding money--a secret that sets in motion a tide that will change the life of everyone it sweeps past. The Rent Collector is a story of hope, of one woman's journey to save her son and another woman's chance at redemption. Little Global Citizen

Kids ages 6-12, join us as we learn about a new country each month! Using a subscription box called Little Global Citizens, we will learn about a different country each month. We'll read a book and then have stations with some fun games, activities, and crafts based on the culture of the country. You can travel the world without ever leaving Michigan! Registration required. New Policy: If you register for a children's program and don't attend (without canceling your registration by the start of the program) twice in a row, you will not be able to register for children's programs for one month. You may stop by at the start of a program to see if there's room and you may still attend drop-in programs.
