Holiday Fireworks

As we get in to the summer holiday season, the questions about fireworks start coming up.  Here are the details for shooting off fireworks in the Township:

NOTICE TO RESIDENTS

In accordance with Public Act 256 of 2011, Georgetown Township authorizes the use of fireworks on the following days:

  • Any day preceding a national holiday.
  • The day of a national holiday.
  • The day after a national holiday.
  • Including:
    1. The Saturday immediately preceding Memorial Day until 11:45 p.m.
    2. June 29 to July 4 until 11:45 p.m. on each of those days.
    3. The Saturday immediately preceding Labor Day until 11:45 p.m.

As prescribed in Title 5, US Code 6103, national holidays are the following days:

  • New Year’s Day, January 1
  • Birthday of Martin Luther King, Jr., the third Monday in January
  • Washington’s Birthday, the third Monday in February
  • Memorial Day, the last Monday in May
  • Independence Day, July 4
  • Labor Day, the first Monday in September
  • Columbus Day, the second Monday in October
  • Veterans Day, November 11
  • Thanksgiving Day, the fourth Thursday in November
  • Christmas Day, December 25

BE AWARE OF THE FOLLOWING

NO PERSON SHALL AT ANY TIME IGNITE, DISCHARGE OR USE CONSUMER FIREWORKS ON PUBLIC PROPERTY, SCHOOL PROPERTY, CHURCH PROPERTY, OR THE PROPERTY OF ANOTHER PERSON WITHOUT THAT ORGANIZATION’S OR PERSON’S EXPRESS PERMISSION TO USE THOSE FIREWORKS ON THOSE PREMISES.

AN INDIVIDUAL SHALL NOT USE FIREWORKS WHILE UNDER THE INFLUENCE OF ALCOHOLIC LIQUOR, A CONSTROLLED SUBSTANCE, OR A COMBINATION OF ALCOHOLIC LIQUOR AND A CONTROLLED SUBSTANCE (as defined by MCL 257.1d and MCL 257.8b).

PENALTIES

ANY PERSON IN VIOLATION OF THE ABOVE SHALL BE GUILTY OF A CIVIL INFRACTION; AND SUBJECT TO PAYMENT OF A CIVIL FINE, PLUS COSTS AND OTHER SANCTIONS, FOR EACH INFRACTION OR REPEAT OFFENSE.
