Recreational Fires

With the milder temperatures brings Georgetown Residents outside where they meet family and friends, and they enjoy recreational fires. All residents in Georgetown Charter Township are allowed to have a recreational fire without obtaining a permit. 

  • Recreational fires can be no larger than 36” in diameter in a ring, pit, free standing fire pit or a commercial container.
  • Conduct burning a safe distance from a residence or other structures.
  • Always use clean & seasoned firewood. Burning of trash and garbage is prohibited.
  • Have a garden hose or fire extinguisher in the close vicinity while burning.
  • Do not leave your fire unattended.
  • If your smoke impedes on a neighbor please extinguish the fire.
  • When you’re ready to end your fire extinguish with water.
  • NEVER discard your ashes or logs into a trash combustible container and they should not be brought into the garage or placed near your home or siding. Ashes can retain heat up to one week.
